Reference on Old Practice of Using Menadione to Treat Complex I Deficiency

This shows that menadione can sometimes substitute for ubiquinone and increase complex I activity (in a rodent model of experimentally-induced complex I deficiency), and menadione used to be used for human patients with complex I or complex II deficiency, due to mitochondrial DNA mutations, in some cases (probably mainly before the staggeringly-high CoQ10 dosage forms became available):
