Blood Flow and Metabolic Activity in the Striatum and Basal Ganglia Overall

The authors of this article [Wajner and Coelho, 1997: (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9427143)] cite some articles that describe the normally-high blood flow to the striatum and high rates of oxidative metabolism in striatal neurons [Cunningham et al., 1986: (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3711158); Hawkins et al., 1983: (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6834033)]. I think these characteristics can also be applied to the basal ganglia overall. I can't get the fulltexts of these articles now.
